Challenge 130--Anything but Holiday

Christmas is over!  2014 is almost here.  Can you even believe it.  Since we are all ready to move on, how about we tackle something that doesn't have anything to do with the holidays.

I am in the process of redoing my PEO chapter's scrapbook.  It was put together with elmer's glue and scotch tape, which we all know is a terrible idea.  I am doing it in a style that anyone can do at any time because someday it may not be me doing the scrapbook.  My goal is to mount everything and keep the bird and flower theme through the pages.  The stamps have been ordered just for the book and will go with the scrap kit I have put together.  Anyone can mount things, label things, and do a simple stamped background.  I also have pocket pages.  It has been my first time with pocket pages and I really like being able to put multiple photos on one page without using a huge 12x12 area for them.

Now, head on over to Hiding in My Craft Room and give us anything but holiday for the chance to win a great prize!

Challenge 129--case yourself!

Hello fellow crafty bloggers!  This week's challenge is case yourself.  That means go back in your collection and find something that can be tweaked, completely overhauled, or redone.

I needed a few quick tags for teacher gifts.  I based these tags off the cards I did back in July for Christmas in July!

Aren't they adorable?!  Head over to hidinginmycraftroom.com and enter your creation!

Yay Super Scraps Saturday!  Dig out those scraps and get busy this weekend.  We all have them.  Why not use them?

This week's prize sponsor is Sweet N Sassy Stamps.  They will be giving out a great prize to the winner on the mail blog this week.  The little bird in on this card is one of their images.  It is adorable!

Challenge 127--Christmas colors

Woohoo!  I finally feel ok putting all of my Christmas decor out.  I just cannot bring myself to get it all out before thanksgiving.  Since we are only 18 says from Christmas, Laurie decided to have Christmas colors week at HIMCR!  I have a tutorial for this week.  We made button Christmas tree ornaments at my aunts' house on thanksgiving.  This was Caleb's.

Didn't he do a great job?  It was a hard fight though.  The floss kept fraying and breaking and since there is no structure with floss, it was hard for them to get it all done.  Most instructions for this project call for needles.  No way.  So this week, i spent some time coming up with a "child under 8" friendly way to do this.

First you will need to gather your supplies.

Use a nylon thread or floss.  I live the sew easy line.  Whatever you use, make sure the ends will melt when exposed to hear.
I also used 3 colors of buttons, but feel free to use whatever or how many you want.

Next, cut your thread.  For this ornament, I cut between 18 and 20 inches.  Now, melt the ends of your floss to seal them.  Note:  please don't let your children do this part.

Next, pick out a large button.  You want this to be the largest button in your tree.  Thread it through the bottom.

Tie a single time.  This helps keep your bottoms from stacking on each other and gives the tree more volume.

Now, stack and tie!  You can make it as big as you want.  I tend to organize mine in size order, but as you could see on Caleb's, he did them out of order and it is still adorable!

Double knot at the top to assure that it stays together.

Now, take out some of those buttons that you don't use often.  You know, the ones with the backs that stick up?  They don't work well on my pages, so I don't use them much and tend to have a lot of them laying around.

Thread it on.  I used yellow to represent a star, but I have 3 made using a red button and that works too!

Tie a knot to keep it on.

Finished!  Now you are ready to hang it.  I tie another knot near the top of the thread to create a way to hang it, but you can do it however is best for you.

Now, head over to hidinginmycraftroom.com and enter your Christmas color creation.  I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Challenge 126--freestyle!

I love months with 5 Saturdays!  That means it's a freestyle week.  And this week I have an adorable mini album to share.  I bought this little envelope album at a scrap weekend 3 years ago.  I haven't used it because I wasn't sure what to do with it.  These photos were taken by my friend Angela about 5 years ago.  There are about 50 photos and there is no way I could actually scrap all 50, so this made it easy to pick the 5 best, then put the rest in the envelope pockets so they are all together.  I have tied it all together with a ribbon that is glued to the back.

Front cover without the tie.  I love wood buttons!

My nephew was only 3 weeks old.  He used to be so quiet!  Lol!

It's such a simple way to keep an event with many photos together!  Head on over to hidinginmycraftroom.com and enter your creation for a chance to win a great prize!!

Challenge 125--thanksgiving

Can you believe that we are only 5 days from thanksgiving?  Today I bought milk that expires on December 8.  Wow.  This week we are celebrating the holiday with thanks themed projects.  My project is admittedly short on fall colors, but my family has a lot to be thankful for this week.  We have all been really sick thus past week and many people have helped with meals, shuttling children, and child care.   This meant it is time to make thank you cards!

I love using this style of flower.  It adds a lot to any layout or card.  Stay tuned this week for a thanksgiving layout.  Hopefully it will be finished tonight.

Now head over to the main blog and enter your creation for a chance at a great prize!

Challenge 114--due cuts!

This week the HIMCR dr is all about die cuts.  I have a cricut and had big plans to use it this week.  Then I remembered all of the die cut pages I have.  I buy them because they are adorable, but then I never use them because I might want them for another project someday.  Well, I decided that someday might as well start now.

Sorry about the poor photo quality this week.  Caleb has been sick so it's a get what you get week!  Head on over to hidinginmycraftroom.com and enter your die cut creation for a chance to win one if two cricut cartridges Laurie is giving away!

HIMCR 120--color it!

Welcome to color it! Week.  I love coloring in color books.  I mean, no one but my kids see them.  But coloring on something someone can see is a whole different situation.  So, I decided to step out of my comfort zone to make this...

I used my Adirondack markers over the acrylic paint.  And look!  Freckled fawn is making an appearance again!

Hop on over to the main blog and enter your creation to win a set of copic markers!

Headbands

Anna used to wear headbands.  That is, until she realized she could pull them off. But every once in awhile, I get a call from a friend to make one or someone has a baby and I make one.  This one is a custom made for a friend.  She will be giving it to her sister in law who is having a baby girl soon.

Subbing

Today was a sub day.  Third graders.  Their teacher is a good friend of mine.  They were hilarious and overall a good class.  I had a good time.  I really do like subbing.  After taking time off to be with the kids, it really does make me feel like it's what I want to do.  After all, I didn't get my teaching degree and halfway through my masters to sit around and not use that knowledge.  If you are visiting from the hiding in my craft room blog, welcome!  Make sure to follow me and let me know so that I can follow you too!

HIMCR--Halloween Colors

Boo!  It's October.  Seriously?  How can it possibly be October?  I'm pretty sure I wasted the last few days of September with my ankle (read about that in my next post), but how can it be October?  This week is Halloween color week at Hiding in My Craft Room.  If you look back, you'll notice I don't do a lot with orange, so you'll only see a slight hint of orange in this layout.

This week you will be entering to win a fun halloween bundle.  So head on over to Hiding In My Craft Room and enter to win!

HIMCR--LOL!

Nope!  Not laughing out loud, although I'm pretty sure that I thought about something funny the other day then my next thought was LOL!  Yep.  I seriously said "LOL" to myself.  That annoys me.  :)

This week, LOL stands for Lots of Layers.  Apparently people are big into layers lately.  I use layers a lot so I'd never notice if they became out of style.

This week, I made a Thank You card for a friend.  They brought me this paper for my birthday.  Shhh!  My birthday was 2 months ago, but I have had a major creativity block.

Cute...right?  The paper is from a DCW pack.  It's pretty adorable!

HIMCR Challenge--Color week!

Welcome!  This week is a color challenge at Hiding in My Craft Room!  We are using Artichoke, More  Mustard or Crushed Curry, and Cajun Craze.  Do you know what I love about being part of the HIMCR design team?  I get to use colors I normally wouldn't use and find out that I can actually use them.  Yeah.  It's kinda great like that.

I started out making a 2 page layout.  Then it became a one page layout.  Then I ended up with this adorable card.  Thank goodness I realized that I needed a thank you card.  I really love it! Don't forget to link up and show us your creation.  Now, it's off to clean because the in-laws are coming!

HIMCR #113--Freestyle

Five Saturdays in August and you know what that means!  It's freestyle week at Hiding in My Craft Room!  Our sponsor this week is Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps.  She provided some awesome digi stamps for the HIMCR design team to use.

Isn't this owl adorable?!  I made these tags to attach to the jars of jelly we took to the kids' teachers at open house.  I colored them in with my tim holtz pens.  I don't often use things like this, but after doing these tags, I have found how versatile they are!  I can't wait to try more!  Hop on over to the main blog and leave us a comment!

HIMCR Creative Spaces Blog Hop

Thanks for clicking over from Adrienne's blog!  Doesn't she have a great space?!  Now it's time to visit a pink space.  Yep.  Very pink.

If you want your room to photograph well, don't paint it "watermelon smoothie".  It's a great color in person, not so great in photos.  lol!  I didn't realize my cricut is hiding behind that box, but I promise it's there!  That box is full of flowers I made for my sister-in-law's wedding.  What do you do with 80 fabric flowers?!

I love my ribbon, thread, and washi storage.  I bought 2 shadow boxes and filled them.  I keep looking for a third to join them, but prices have gone up and I'm not willing to spend that much.

See!  I do love my ribbon storage.  I wrap all of my ribbon around vintage wooden spools.  The only ones I don't do that for are the huge rolls of thin ribbon.  Those get stored elsewhere.

I am in the process of organizing photos.  There are piles everywhere!  But I should be able to conquer the mess this weekend.  I don't really have a choice since Tony's parents are coming in less than 2 weeks!  This is how I'll organize my college years through now.  Don't worry, this isn't all of the photos I have!  I only print what I need.

Tony and I made these for my room last year.  I painted these boards and then screwed the jar lids into them.  It makes it really easy for me just to unscrew them and screw them back on.  I use them to hold buttons, metal embellishments, jewels, hair bow making supplies, etc.  I even have one that holds premade bows that I make from the ends of ribbon rolls.  I hate to waste anything.

I even keep and hang my tags from different scrap events I go to.  The one there is from an event I worked at last year.  More on that another time.  I hung up my mother's day gifts from the twins.  If only you could see how adorable they are in those photos!

I know it's not a great photo, but this is how I store my cardstock.  I got it at a garage sale for 2.00.  It's made for 8 1/2 x 11, which means it doesn't close.  Sometimes closing it would be a big inconvenience though.

This is how I store my other paper.  You can see the tape on them from when I've taped them to keep them from opening while traveling.  I need to come up with a new way to store paper because I can never find what I want!  Maybe I should make custom shelves for each brand.

I hope you had a great time exploring my creative space.  Please leave me a comment letting me know what you think!  Now, go visit Kelli's space!  And don't forget to visit the main blog at the end and leave a comment for the giveaway!
